¿QUIÉN SOY?

I’m from a small rural farming village in the Caribbean Island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Life was hard growing up with my single parent mom and 4 other siblings. We had no electricity or pipe borne water in our home growing up and had a pit Latrine. However our mom taught us the value of working hard, by farming our own food and raising our own chickens. This was how we earned money for school. I guess that’s where my business side came from. As a teenager I was tall and lanky for my age and was teased for my skinny frame, my yellowish colour, big lips and awkwardness. I was also pestered for being poor and a descendent of the indigenous people of my country. I was told I won’t get anywhere because I stuttered really badly. My mom thought differently and encouraged me to fight back by achieving my goals and silence my detractors. She would always say “don’t allow anyone to walk over you”. That fighting spirit carried over into my adult life. I starting modeling at age 18 for the very reasons people rejected and teased me and focused intentionally on the performance arts. I even started a T-shirt brand recapturing and promoting the cultural heritage of our indigenous Kalinago and Garifuna people. Today I consider myself a visionary, who is passionate about life, art, music, fashion and entrepreneurship. Im an author and motivational speaker who use my difficult childhood to empower persons not to make their beginning become their ending. I also started my own talk show empowering persons whom life has knocked down, to reignite their passion and jumpstart their lives again. Reminding them that if a boy like me who grew up with nothing can achieve his wildest dreams, they can too. For fun, I love going to the beach, love hiking and exploring nature and love pretty much any adventure. I constantly challenge myself beyond my limits to achieve my goals. I’m a go getter whose dreams are bigger than the island I’m from and know that with hard work and consistent pursuit anything is possible, even for an island boy like me.

¿ QUÉ PIENSO SOBRA LA SERIE DE TV THE FASHION HERO?

I think it’s an excellent show for the underdog, the ones who have been told they’ve not good enough or not cultured enough, or from too poor a family or from the wrong side of town, or not beautiful enough. It’s an enabling environment for those misfits to prove to the world that with a little motivation and a little help, they can make a difference and inspire those who been told no to push for their dreams. I think it’s great to see ordinary people achieve their extraordinary dreams.

¿POR QUÉ SERÍA YO UN GRAN MODELO PARA ESTA GENERACIÓN E INSPIRARÍA A LAS PERSONAS COMO LA NUEVA CARA DEL THE FASHION HERO?

I’ve been told no so many times that now I turn a no backwards and say I’m “on” It. Proving to my critics that I can achieve anything I put my mind to. I push my hardest to achieve my dreams and don’t let anything limit me from achieving my highest potential, whether it’s education, music, fashion or in business. I was teased for my colour, growing up in a predominantly dark skinned community and for being poor, indigenous and a stutterer. Yet I never let that keep me from advancing and becoming the first person in my community to attend University and achieve a Master’s Degree. I’m a trailblazer and I know my story will inspire many persons, who feel like they’re not good enough to keep dreaming, pushing and jumpstart their journey into their purpose. I’m ready for this challenge!
