QUI SUIS-JE ?

My name is Serah Beckley a.k.a Seraph and I am a Nigerian Crochetwear Designer, Stylist, Creative Director, and Muse. I’m currently based in New Jersey in the USA. I moved to America when I was three. I was very outgoing child up until I was a pre teen and teenager and the reality of being a dark skin black person living in America society hit me like a brick. I struggled with existing in my skin in various of ways from perming/hating my hair, skin bleaching, being bulimic, and being suicidal but as a teenager the idea of being apart of the fashion industry always floated around in my mind. Specifically I always wanted to be a super model. It was very hard for me to actualize how I could make it as a model given the way society viewed a person who looks like me and there was and is a lack of representation of people who look like me in the fashion industry especially people who have my hair texture. In 2014 I cut all my hair off and that was the first time I ever saw what my actual hair texture looked like. I started to embrace my beauty and culture more but still struggled with my mental health. I was depressed up until the end of 2016. What set me free from my depression was holistic remedies and my artistry. 2016 was also the year I learned how to crochet and what has motivated me to keep going is the fact that I want every size and ethnicity to feel represented in fashion. In 2018 I registered Seraphtive as an LLC and I'm now positioned as a crochetwear designer but I still have dreams of being a well known model but because of the way I look it hasn't been an easy journey. Even though I haven’t been getting selected for most of the opportunities I've been putting myself out there for. It’s amazing that I've been able to provide myself and every kind of model opportunities through my own platform and I hope to grow and really shake the table.

QU’EST-CE QUE JE PENSE DE LA SÉRIE TÉLÉVISÉE THE FASHION HERO?

The Fashion Hero TV series caught my attention because it’s a platform like no other. I love that this show aims to break down the barriers in the fashion and beauty industry by providing change makers the platform that is needed to be seen so they can effectively inspire other people who are also passionate about creating the changes they want to see in the industry.

POURQUOI VOULEZ VOUS ÊTRE LE MODÈLE DE CETTE GENERATION ET INSPIRER PLUSIEURS GENS EN ÉTANT LE NOUVEAU VISAGE DE THE FASHION HERO ?

I would be a great role model for this generation and inspire people because in 2018 I established a company called Seraphtive that I'm the CEO/Designer/Stylist/Creative Director for. Seraphtive offers handmade crochetwear and holistic products/services to heal the mind, body, and soul and connect angelic beings alike. My intention for Seraphtive is to be apart of making a positive impact in the Fashion, Media, and Health industries. By showcasing diversity and selling products such as but aren't limited to Crochet-Wear, Ready to Wear, Holistic Care, and Art. I think it’s important that we honor the fact that we have all been made different on purpose by creating products and media that acknowledges the beauty in our difference. Specifically to create a positive impact in the fashion industry I think its important that what I create doesn't cause harmful effects to our environment and that I make designs for each size in mind. I like to incorporate healing symbolism in my designs. I think my mindset of bridging fashion and wellness is needed in the industry. When I cast models I make sure that every size and ethnicity feels represented because I believe its important that you see people who look like you in fashion. (all crochet wear is handmade by me)
