As an artist I find it difficult to answer this question because I’m on the journey to self-discovery and thus do not wish to be defined by my gender; race, origin or occupation. Yet this are the very things that currently best describe me. As such I look forward to a future where I’ll be defined by my positive contribution to the world but for now here a little snippet. I come from a magical country called Kenya in a city by the Lake named Kisumu. I am a lover of art, music and fashion but choose finance as a source of income and currently exploring content creation as a hobby. I am passion about the people I love and the things I believe in and will fight hard for what I feel is right. I seek happiness even though I’m often not, long for freedom and my truest version of expression, want to love and be loved and hope that I fulfill my purpose.
The Fashion Hero has started a brave movement against the fashion and beauty industry standards. It’s encouraging diversity and real beauty and giving everyone an opportunity to be comfortable in whom they are and confidently show the world that it is okay to embrace uniqueness. It’s created a platform for diverse individuals, different cultures and created space for stories that have since been such an inspiration to me. The Fashion Hero TV series is especially important at a time like this, where the world has shifted its focus to perfection as highlighted in social media. I am very passionate about this show because I finally have a chance to see myself in the participants. I finally get to learn to be comfortable in my own skin, and master the art of confidence. I look forward to joining a show that highlights such positivity and inspiring stories.
To the one who was insulted, bullied and called ugly, the one who got so lost they fell into a deep state of depression, the one who at one time had suicidal thoughts, the one who has been sexually harassed or exploited, the one whose skin was deemed dark enough to face colorism in a country highly populated by dark people, the one whose faced racism in foreign countries, the one who’s been told they aren’t good enough because of their origins, the one who’s had to hide their sexual preference, the one who had to pretend to be someone else, please note that you are not alone. The road to self-discovery is difficult, your freedom is rarely given and most might not understand you, your wants and your needs but if I can stand up for myself and fight for my happiness, so can you.
