Hi, my name is Jasmine Downer. I’m a girl from Toronto ON, who never really fit in anywhere because of my distinct cultures. Luckily as I get older and I learn more about myself, I care less of what others think and more about how I treat the ones around me instead! I love to do work for non-profit organizations and I am fluent in American Sign Language. I’m a musician and a song writer, and I love to put a smile on someone’s face :)

I think the Fashion Hero TV series is bringing a lot of light to what fashion is now vs what it was then. We are all so unique that fashion isn’t something that should be denied by anyone because of the fact.

Why do I think I would make a great role model for this generation? Well I look at all the role models that we look up to today. As the adults we are now. What they believe, how they use their voice, and what makes up their purpose. Black women inspire me every single day. So I would like to inspire others to truly go out and live their truth. Find the beauty in yourself because I can guarantee it’s there and I could find it in seconds. As someone who’s had to undergo not knowing where my place was in society as a young, black, dark skinned woman - who was raised by a young, Deaf black immigrant woman, I’ve learned that my voice holds the volumes to create an impact and diversify, and I can chase my dreams while encouraging others to do the same. Cause if I can do it, anyone can.
