I am an aspiring singer and actress finishing up my last year of high school.
I love this show! I think it's so incredible to show more diversity in the fashion industry because I remember growing up all I saw on TV were tall, thin, gorgeous people and then I would look around me and see equally gorgeous people who did not fit those standards who thought that they were ugly because they weren't this one specific stereotype of a person.
I wear hearing aids, I am about 50% deaf in both of my ears. One thing that people have told me repeatedly throughout my life is that I surprised them. People don't know that I'm hard of hearing unless I tell them I am, and when I do, it seems to change the way they see me. My audiologist once told me that she was shocked that I was so "normal." She said most people with my range of hearing loss don't do well in school, they don't socialize well, they don't go to college, they don't have dreams of acting and being in front of people because they've been told their wholes lives that they can't do those things because they can't hear. When she told me that, it made me incredibly angry. Who is out here telling people that their disabilities define their lives? You wouldn't go out and tell someone with glasses that they shouldn't try to be successful, why would you say the same to someone with hearing aids? I am here to show people that no matter what your disability might be, there is a place for you in this world. You shouldn't give up because you're not perfect. You can do anything you set your mind to.
