Who am I?

Who I’m I? I am this girl that gets misgendered a lot because of my appearance and my sense of style. I am also the girl who’s mother gave birth to at 1am in the morning but by 8am, my mother was up, seated on a sewing machine with me on her laps trying to create unique clothes to Sell and feed her family, I grew up to the sound of a sewing machine, and as soon as I was able to walk, I was up helping my mother with the buttons and also in hawking of the clothes with my siblings. Generally, Fashion is my life, I was born to it and I’m here to speak to the world through it. That’s me.

What do I think about The Fashion Hero TV series?

I think it is bringing forth a revolution. And this is the perfect time because this is the time we need to rise up and battle “Fast Fashion” that is literally killing talents and focusing only on trends that are later dumped into the environment to destroy it. This is a chance For the Fashion industry to take a U-turn and actually start bringing forth Styles that tell stories, Styles that give people a sense of belonging and Styles that are sustainable by the environment.

Why would I be a great role model for this generation and inspire people as the new face of The Fashion Hero?

My Country Kenya is so unexplored when it comes to originality and inspiration of Fashion because most Designers here focus more on “Fast Fashion” but I believe I’m different because I want to tell the world what Africa(Specifically Kenya) is via Fashion. I want to tell a story. I want people to be able to recognize Kenya and Africa at large on international streets just by looking at what someone is Wearing! I want to show people what African Fashion would have morphed into if there were no colonial interferences. I want AFRICA TO TRUST ITSELF that we too have what it takes to create our indigenous designs that can compete globally! I am bringing The rich unexplored and raw African culture to the international streets! Africans don’t have to copy international standards of Fashion because the inspirations we have on this continent can create Sustainable styles that the whole world can appreciate. I have always dreamt about doing this ever since I was a child, and now it’s time, With or without this program, I’ll still do this, but this program will help a lot with visibility. So I’d really appreciate getting in.
